Getting Outdoors

Spring has sprung! After a long and cold winter, everyone is excited to get outdoors and enjoy the sun and warm weather. We anticipate limitless summer activities and wonderful vacations. Along with all this excitement and enjoyment come a few woes. Essential oils are excellent companions to first aid kits and for alleviating scrapes, minor wounds, sunburn, and bug bites.

The following recipes are for adult use. If you are using essential oils for children, use one half the number of drops essential oil as you would for adults. For children under six years of age, the number of drops essential oil should be half the amount used for children.

Minor cuts and wounds
The following list of essential oils is useful for minor cuts and wounds: Lavender officinalis, Lavender vera, Tea tree, Cypress, Geranium, and Rockrose. They can be applied to bandages along with a carrier such as aloe vera gel. Use 5 drops essential oil in total in 5 ml aloe vera gel for adults; and, 2 or 3 drops essential oil in 5 ml aloe vera gel for children. For minor cuts put 1 drop rockrose and 1 drop lavender officinalis neat on the cut before applying a bandage.
